When moving a herd of cattle,
whether on a long trail drive or to a new pasture,
the crew of cowboys herding them had to have plenty of cow savvy
and ability to work their position within the team.
Perhaps one of the most important positions is the "tail rider"
who follows at the rear of the herd
and whose duty is to push stragglers andprevent deserters.
